As a personal injury lawyer working in Hamilton, I can’t speak highly enough about this city.
Between the booming art scene on James Street North, the buzz of the downtown core and the ongoing events that make summer worthwhile, there’s never a shortage of things to do.
Now that we’ve reached September and the hoopla of the Pan Am games has died down, we’re left to embrace what’s left of summer and enjoy all that September and early fall has to offer.
These Hamilton events are some of my favourites:
1. Gore Park Summer Promenade
The Gore Park Summer Promenade is an ongoing event that plays out every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 11am to 5pm in Gore Park.
With great food, vendors, live music and local entertainment, it’s an exciting atmosphere to enjoy with the kids after visiting Jackson Square Mall or running errands downtown.
I’ve found myself down there on more than one occasion for lunch to experience the music and food truck creations as a way to break up my busy workday.
What’s more; this event is free and open to the public! Be sure to check it out before it ends on September 4th.
Being a personal injury lawyer, I like to think I’ve seen it all, but nothing compares to the outright eeriness you’ll experience during an infamous Hamilton Ghost Walk.
These walking tours explore Hamilton’s most legendary haunted hot spots like The Scottish Rite, Hermitage and the historic Custom House, making for a night of paranormal that highlights the history of the city.
Founded by proud Hamiltonians, be prepared to explore the city like you never have before; a must-try experience for those with a curious spirit.
3. Autumn Sundays at Westfield Heritage Village
The Westfield Heritage Village is a stunning collection of over 30 historical buildings that capture the true charm and spirit of early Canadian Culture.
During Autumn Sundays you’ll experience living history demonstrations by costumed interpreters and take part in guided tours of the 130-hectre site bordered by beautiful woodlands, meadows and trails.
I visited last September with my family and, besides the beauty of the architecture, was taken aback by the vibrant fall colours that engulfed the area. Trust me when I say you’ll want to bring your camera!
4. Binbrook Fall Fair
You haven’t experienced Fall in Hamilton until you’ve visited the Binbrook Fair; a celebration of rural Ontario and Hamilton’s agricultural side.
A tradition for many Hamiltonians, this year is the Binbrook’s 161st event, boasting everything from the Demolition Derby to reptile shows, petting zoos to live entertainment and the ever-popular midway for the kids.

5. Apple Festival in Battlefield Park
Mark down September 26th on your calendar as this year’s official kick-off to fall; the harvest fun begins at the Apple Festival in Battlefield Park!
If you can’t wait to experience the delicious treats and festivities that make the season unforgettable, you’ll love this free outdoor event.
Perfect for the entire family, you can expect to enjoy a pancake breakfast, plenty of games, pumpkin decorating, entertainment and of course, the annual Battlefield Bake off!
I know I’ll be coming home with plenty of apple cider to last me through the winter…
Which upcoming Hamilton event has you excited for fall? It’s a short season; take time out with your family and experience what the thriving city of Hamilton has to offer while you still can!
